Lately I have been feeling really embarrassed to be considered a Pop/Hip Hop fan. Yes, I am talking about music here. I know that it is inevitable that music changes over time, but I really can’t stand when there is a merger of genres. I am talking about the way that Techno seems to be invading… well, everything!
The image above is from the Grammy’s which took place last night and found on Softpedia. This is Rihanna performing “We Found Love”, a prime example of what I am talking about!
I can appreciate techno in the same way that I appreciate any other type of music. But what I really dislike is when talented singers start trying to mimic techno. I’m sorry, but I just don’t find the thrill in a beat that repeats itself an infinite number of times and the whole diversity of 2 lines of lyrics. Why would I want to hear the same thing over and over again for 4 minutes?
It’s fine when I am dancing, in fact I really enjoy dancing to techno because the repetitiveness of it makes you feel like you can dance forever. I can’t say that I want to hear it on a daily basis, when I am driving or going to work or cleaning the house. It becomes headache inducing.
But it really seems like every artist is joining this techno trend. I don’t know if it makes them feel current or what… fyi it makes you all seem like copiers! I could understand if a few artists went for it.. but literally I bet if you open iTunes and look at the top sellers, they are all going to be these techno-fied artists. Akon, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Flo Rider, and I can’t even think of anymore because there are so many of them.
And I know that right there I just said that on iTunes these songs are best sellers, which obviously means that people are buying this crap. Call me a bitter person, but personally I don’t really think there is much choice. If you like the mainstream artists, and they release all of this crap, unless you are going to continue listening to songs from a decade ago you are going to have to buy it.
I miss the days when vocal talent outweighed synthesized sounds. I mean they were ok as background noise, to add to the song, but now the synthesized crap dominates! Sorry but I don’t want to hear an earsplitting shrieking noise all the time!
So last night while watching the Grammy’s, I had the pleasure of seeing the end of Chris Brown’s performance (again, techno crap and flashing lights… oh and the lip syncing was so attractive), and then I saw Rihanna’s performance (the best part was the beginning when she was actually singing, before the techno shit), and then Rihanna melded into… Coldplay? And you know what… I actually enjoyed the Coldplay song even though I never friggen found anything I could like by Coldplay before.
I think it’s really just that I am tired of hearing all the techno crap and I am now appreciating real music. Interesting how one genre can disappoint you so much that it makes you like other genres that you previously had absolutely no interest in, haha!
Anyways, that is my little rant for the day.
